"September 8 Screening"
Photos & recap by Melisse Seleck

"In The Mix: A Blend Of Filmmaker Styles & Genres" played to an enthusiastic crowd at the Pioneer Theatre. "The Creation", written, produced, directed by Deb Lucke was a crowd pleaser, garnering many ahs for its beautiful camera work, imaginative storyline and creative animated touches. The story has a sidewalk chalk painting of God come to life to save the artist who created him, causing all sorts of NY havoc. Deb's piece nicely warmed up the audience for the NY [sneak preview screening] of our very own president extraordinaire, Andee Kinzy's "What Is It About Hats?", uncapping the secrets of hat lovers around the country. The 30 min. doc was a fun, quirky look into the history of hats and the many diverse women under the brims with fascinating hat tales, Andee's piece drew big applause. "Champion Blues" a feature length profile of Mickey Champion, the maverick Los Angeles blues singing legend, directed by Aletha Rogers, mesmerized the audience with its gorgeous sound, crafty camera work and the powerful spirit of Micky herself, a strong, talented hunk of woman who can belt the blues better than anyone. The Q&A that followed the screening, portrayed the three talented women as being filmmakers passionate for their projects with insight into the ups and downs of their respective pieces. The consensus was all three pieces were a hit among the Pioneer crowd.
